The In the Stillness 2017 Speaker Series is facilicated Medi Home Health & Hospice. Appalachian Regional Healthcare System is one of the sponsors of the event. This presentation will help teach you how to be a supportive and positive companion to the bereaved. Speaker Lisa Athan will go over multiple methods including the power of presence, empathy, and listening that will prepare you to be a source of hope to those who are experiencing loss. Lisa will also provide simple and effective ways to becoming self-aware, intentional, and patient when those we love are journeying through grief.
Lisa Athan is the Executive Director and Founder of Grief Speaks. Lisa is a national speaker for teenagers and adults and has over 30 years of experience in the fields of addiction, mental health, death and dying, grief and other losses of various kinds. Ms. Athan is also the Co-Founder and Child Bereavement Specialist for Camp Clover, a NJ weeklong bereavement day camp for children 7-15 years old who have lost a parent, sibling or other important person in their lives through death. Her specialty is facilitating workshops, keynotes and training programs on coping with grief and loss. Lisa speaks on various types of loss experiences, in addition to death, which can also lead one on a unique journey through grief. Lisa Athan obtained her Master’s degree in Counseling from Montclair State University and is a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist. Lisa serves on the Traumatic Loss Coalition for Youth as a Lead Responder.
