Appalachian Regional Adult and Family Medicine is designed to be the healthcare home for your entire family. Our physicians have the knowledge and experience to care for all members of your family, age 4 and up.

You may consider us, as your primary care providers, to be your medical home from which subspecialty and alternative care is coordinated to best meet your health needs as a whole person. We are committed to excellence and providing you with the finest quality, evidence-based medical care available. Our goal is to help you achieve and preserve the best quality of health/life for as many years as possible. As physicians we are committed to lifelong learning and welcome questions on new and emerging treatments and strategies for preventative health. We offer medical care for your family (ages 4 and up), as well as geriatric care, cardiovascular risk evaluation and complete preventative health services.


Providers

Chris McCracken, MD Dr. Chris McCracken graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA, and completed his Family Medicine residency at Washington Hospital in Washington, PA. Particular interests of his within Family Medicine include women's health, pediatric and adolescent medicine, orthopaedic and sports medicine, and in-office dermatologic procedures.
Michael Kimbro, MD Dr. Michael Kimbro is board certified in Family Medicine. He graduated from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. Dr. Kimbro practiced in Mountain City, TN for many years, but left his practice in August of 2010 to do missionary work in Peru. He has been a resident of Boone for the past 10 years.
Barbara Dean, PA-C

Barbara Dean, PA-C grew up in a small town in upstate NY, and went on to receive her bachelor's degree at Rochester Institute of Technology in 2001. She practiced in internal medicine, and then took an opportunity in medical oncology at Interlakes Hematology and Oncology in Rochester, NY. While there, she met her husband who lived at the time in Dallas, TX. She relocated to Dallas, and began work at Texas Cancer Associates for 3 years. During that time, she also obtained her Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies. She and her husband built a home in McKinney, TX, after getting married, and at which time she also pursued family practice for the next 5 years.

Barbara and her husband moved to Valle Crucis, NC in October of 2012, after vacationing in the area for the last 5 years. She enjoys hiking, walking, cooking, gardening and spending time with her four adopted dachshunds at home. She looks forward to developing new patient relationships, and living in this area for a very long time.
