Appalachian Regional Healthcare System (ARHS) pursues the best possible care for women here in the High Country. Harmony Center for Women and the Wilma Redmond Breast Center both provide top-of-the-line services for women in all stages of life.
Wilma Redmond Fund
The Wilma Redmond Mammography Fund is dedicated to the memory of Wilma Redmond who for more than twenty years managed Watauga Medical Center’s Imaging Department and fought courageously to overcome her own breast cancer. When she died in 2002, a fund was established by Watauga Medical Center Foundation for contributions received by her family and friends.
The Fund provides free mammograms for uninsured women thirty-five years and older who have never had a mammogram. The goal of the program is to have all women undergo annual mammograms for early detection and diagnosis so that the proper timely treatment of breast cancer can take place.
