Ian Verhaeghe, MSN, FNP-BC, joined Appalachian Regional Internal Medicine Specialists in August of 2020. He is a board-certified family nurse practitioner.
Ian trained to become an emergency department nurse at UNC Chapel Hill and continued his training as a family nurse practitioner at Duke University. His clinical interests include management of both acute and chronic diseases, as well as integrative medical approaches to health promotion and disease prevention.
He also holds a master’s degree in international development and emergency practice from Oxford Brookes University, in Oxford, United Kingdom. He spent years working in humanitarian aid in Haiti, Nepal, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Burundi, and these experiences shaped his path to becoming the clinician he is today.
Ian is a North Carolina native, and when not seeing patients in clinic, he enjoys tubing, camping and hiking with his wife and two young children. His favorite activities include reading books and playing games with his children, and spending as much time outside as possible.
