Dr. Angela McGhee joined Appalachian Regional Healthcare System in 2020. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology at Georgia Institute of Technology. She graduated medical school at Medical College of Georgia and completed her pediatric residency in Greenville, South Carolina at Prisma Health – Upstate (formerly known as Greenville Memorial Hospital).

She would describe herself as a foodie and an exercise enthusiast. She is always on the search for new restaurants to try, and she is frequently working out in the gym or running outdoors. Dr. Angela McGhee also enjoys traveling and exploring new places with her husband (Dr. Matthew McGhee).

During your hospital stay, a team of physicians, nurses, therapists, technicians and specialists work together to ensure that you receive the best medical care. AppPeds of Watauga Medical Center include board-certified pediatricians who care for infants, children, and adolescents while they are in the hospital. These providers are there shortly after a mother gives birth to care for the newborn, as well as treating children or adolescents who find themselves in the hospital for various reasons. The MAHEC Rural Family Medicine Residency program also works with Watauga Pediatric Hospitalists, placing residents in rotation for pediatric medicine.

Dr. Matthew McGhee was born and raised in central Georgia farm country. He completed medical school at the Medical College of Georgia, followed by Internal Medicine residency training in Greenville, SC at the University of SC School of Medicine, Greenville. Dr. McGhee finds the evolving world of internal medicine to be incredibly enjoyable and loves to bring new evidence based medicine to his patients.

He and his wife (a pediatrician) love to travel. They particularly enjoy rugged terrain; they were engaged on the cliffs of Santorini and married at the base of Mount Haleakala in Hawaii. The two are excited to bring their love of medicine to Boone and call the mountains of North Carolina home!
