Dr. Kim Brooks is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist at Harmony Center for Women. Dr. Brooks completed her undergraduate degree in biology and her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC. After earning her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, Dr. Brooks completed her residency at Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she received comprehensive and rigorous training that covered the entire spectrum of women’s healthcare.

Prior to joining UNC Health Appalachian, Dr. Brooks has 27 years of experience in private practice. She is excited to be a part of this close community and to contribute to the health and well-being of the women who call the High Country home.

In her leisure time, Dr. Brooks enjoys spending time with her family – she is married with three adult children, one of whom is medically fragile/special needs. In addition, Dr. Brooks loves to cook, listen to music, and sing loudly in her car. She is also a writer and author and published her first book in 2023.

Dr. Chai is passionate about helping women achieve their healthcare goals. While she practices in all areas of gynecology, she has a special interest in the treatment of abnormal bleeding and pelvic organ prolapse.

“My father was an OB/GYN and I grew up knowing that I wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps. I feel lucky that I have always known what I wanted to do. I have practiced as an OB/GYN for over 30 years and love working in women’s health and wellness.”

Dr. Chai moved to Boone, North Carolina from Elmira, New York in 2023. She loves that Boone retains a small-town feel amidst the cosmopolitan energy of larger cities within a few hours’ drive. She is enjoying the beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains surrounding Boone and trying to take advantage of the many outdoor activities in the High Country. Dr. Chai has found her transition working at UNC Health Appalachian to be wonderful because of the welcoming and supportive staff and providers here. She is thrilled to be part of UNC Health Appalachian and the Boone community.

In her free time, Dr. Chai enjoys time with her family. She has a son who is a mechanical engineer at Carrier in Syracuse and a daughter who is an athletic trainer for Syracuse Orthopedic Services. She is an avid reader, loves watching Korean drama series, hiking outdoors, spinning classes, and growing orchids.

Dr. Chai received her undergraduate degree from the University of Scranton, Scranton, PA, and went on to get her medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. She completed her OBGYN residency at Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Allentown, PA.

Nicole “Nikki” Chappell, WHNP-BC is a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner who specializes in providing healthcare to women across their lifespan, focusing on reproductive health, infertility, gynecological care, and overall wellness.

Nikki received her graduate degree from Seton Hall University. She was born and raised here in the North Carolina high country and women’s health has been her primary focus since she began in healthcare.

Nicole enjoys living in the High Country and takes advantage of all it offers. When she is not working, you will find her paddle boarding, boating, and spending time with her family and friends.

With a heart as warm as her smile, Nikki brings a delightful touch to Women’s Health. We are lucky to have her!

Dr. Courtney Damian is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist. Born and raised in the mountains of Colorado, she graduated magna cum laude from the University of Colorado in Boulder with dual degrees in Spanish Literature and Molecular/Cellular/Developmental Biology. She then completed medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, where she pursued a dedicated curriculum track in Women’s Health and was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Damian went on to complete her residency at the University of Texas Southwestern at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, where she gained broad experience in high-risk obstetrics, gynecologic surgery, and preventative care.

Dr. Damian moved to the High Country in 2019, providing comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care at Harmony Center for Women. In 2023, she was appointed Medical Director of Obstetrics to oversee the hospital-based OBGYN physician practice. In this role, she provides advanced care in labor and delivery, emergency care including emergency surgery, and triage services for all obstetric and gynecologic patients at Watauga Medical Center. She works collaboratively with the midwife and family medicine providers when consultation, surgical procedures, or a higher level of care is needed in labor, birth, or postpartum. She also continues to consult for high-risk prenatal patients at Harmony Center for Women.

When not at work, she enjoys exploring the great outdoors with her husband, Tom, and young son, Max.

Dr. Lynda Gioia-Flynt is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist specializing in high-risk obstetrics. Dr. Gioia earned her undergraduate degree in psychology with honors and her medical degree at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC.

After earning her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, Dr. Gioia completed a rigorous residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, NY, where she received comprehensive training in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a wide range of women’s health issues.

Dr. Gioia has served as the Gynecology Division Director & Ambulatory Service Director in Memphis, Tennessee, and has experience as an OB/GYN hospitalist in Winston-Salem, NC. She moved to the High Country in 2014 and feels lucky to live in a beautiful area with a strong interwoven community. In her free time, Dr. Gioia enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with her husband, Chad, their two children, Morgan and Camden, and their dogs.
