Primary Care and Internal Medicine: Elk River Medical Associates has been an integral part of Avery County medical community since opening in Banner Elk in 1990. Dr. David Kimmel and Dr. Alfred Earwood specialize in Internal and Primary Care Medicine.
Same-Day Clinic: Life is busy and your time is valuable. Elk River Medical Associates Same-Day Clinic now provides treatment for minor illnesses and injuries by appointment. The Same-Day Clinic is a convenient option for acute medical issues for which you would normally go to urgent care in Banner Elk, such as colds, flu, sore throat, sinus pain, ear pain, allergies, bug bites/stings and minor injuries for patients ages 13 and up. Give us a call to reserve a time that fits your busy schedule.

Nurse Dottie is just as dedicated as Dr. Kimmel. In fact all the staff at Elk River Medical Associates treats their patients with respect, care and are concerned about us.

If you are a patient of one of the Appalachian Regional Medical Associates practices, and are being discharged from Watauga Medical Center or Cannon Memorial Hospital, you may receive a call from the Health Navigation Team to assist you in getting follow up care with your primary care provider.
