Chestnut Ridge

Construction on a new Post Acute Care Center to replace Blowing Rock Rehabilitation & Davant Extended Care Center (formerly Blowing Rock Hospital) will begin Spring 2014. Chestnut Ridge will offer a neighborhood concept with skilled nursing care, post-acute rehabilitation care, memory care and palliative care. The facility will provide 40 additional beds, bringing the total to 112 beds.

The facility will be built a a 68-acre site close to the Blue Ridge Parkway in Blowing Rock and will open in late 2015.· The facility will be a two-story structure an include private and semi-private bedrooms, kitchens, dining areas, living areas and more. The project will cost approximately $20 million.

"We want to integrate the residents, not isolate them," said Gillian Baker, Vice President of Corporate Communications for ARHS. "We want them to feel that they are part of a community. We call them neighborhoods. We won't have the long hallways that we now have at the current Blowing Rock Rehabilitation & Davant Extended Care Center."

Appalachian Regional Healthcare System (ARHS) will partner with Appalachian State University's College of Health Sciencesto provide educational opportunties and training to nursing students, as well as other disciplines such as nutrition and health care management. ARHS also anticipates adding 50+ additional jobs.
