On April 9, 2022, Faith Oakley fell outside and fractured her left ankle. Oakley lives in Boone and she is employed as a nurse practitioner for Wilkes Medical Center. Due to the severity of her injury, she had to drag herself into her house to call her husband. When her husband arrived and tried to help her stand, she became dizzy and passed out for a few seconds. His wife Chris has chosen to honor his legacy with a $1 million gift to the Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation toward a new, ultramodern orthopedic program at Watauga Medical Center.
