Cannon Memorial HospitalBuilt in 1999, Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed acute care hospital with a 10-bed inpatient behavioral health unit. The full-service emergency department, imaging department, laboratory, outpatient behavioral health, The Rehabilitation Center offering physical and occupational therapies, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation round out the list of services. Conveniently located in Linville, the center point of Avery County, Cannon is accessible to meet the healthcare needs of the community.

Avery Cancer Resource Alliance

The Avery County Cancer Resource Center opened March 5, 2007. Initially located in the dressing area of the radiology department at Cannon Memorial Hospital, the center relocated in July 2009 into an office suite in the Sloop Medical Office Plaza on the Cannon Memorial Hospital campus. The center includes a wig bank, donated by the American Cancer Society, as well as turbans and hats purchased by the Cannon Memorial Hospital Volunteer program. Local volunteers also knit caps for chemo patients.

The Avery County Cancer Resource Center gives Appalachian Regional Healthcare System cancer patients access to:

  • Reach to Recovery
  • Road to Recovery
  • Look Good Feel Better
  • Wigs/Turbans/Hats
  • Lymphedema Treatments
  • Support Groups
  • Prosthetics

Primary Care

The Baker Center for Primary Care, which opened in the Sloop Medical Plaza in 2013, provides Avery County residents with accessible, compassionate and high quality care for the entire family.
